It’s that time again! Every week, we here at [Insert Pop Culture Reference] each like to share something that we loved this week. Chantaal: I’m not a musicals fan at all (in fact, the only one I can stand is Moulin Rouge and even then there are some numbers I don’t like), so when Glee came around I largely ignored it. I read Stefanie’s posts because she’s awesome, but I wasn’t as interested as half the people I know seemed to be. But then, for some reason while reading Heroine TV I clicked play on episode three which was embedded in a post, and…I couldn’t stop. It’s lighthearteded and it made me laugh, which was exactly what I needed this week. Some of the heavy handedness made me cringe and not all of the musical numbers were to my taste (where the hell is that bust the windows out your car song from?), but I enjoyed it. And that’s all I really ask out of my pop culture.
Laine: I’m not much of a video gamer. In fact, I bought a PlayStation 2 years ago solely to play Kingdom Hearts, which I promptly had stolen from me by a neighbor, and have used it only as a DVD player ever since; the PS3 I got for Christmas has been functioning almost entirely as a Blu-Ray player. However, when I took my computer in to Best Buy’s Geek Squad and found that I had to turn it in for at least two weeks, I picked up The Beatles Rock Band almost entirely on a whim. Now, I love regular Rock Band, and The Beatles have always been one of my favorite bands, but this — this is something special. The graphics alone look like they’re right out of the sixties, and if it weren’t enough to be playing some of the most well-known songs in rock history, there’s my own personal favorite addition: Now, instead of just one singer, you can have up to three, and earn more points for singing in harmony. Now, when I’m not online, you know what I’ll be doing.
Stefanie: While I went all out with an entire post on this year’s Spring collections, I’m going to go one step further and say that I loved the entire Milly line. It’s fun, it’s fresh, it’s comfortable and cute without being over-the-top or frilly or what-have-you. This is the kind of clothing that reminds me why couture is so much fun to look at and, I can only imagine, wear. Add to that this week’s episode of Gossip Girl, which was everything I could possibly have hoped for, and it’s been a fun, fashion-filled week for me.
Angel: While I expressed my disappointment at Kanye West for his outburst at last Sunday’s VMAs, the moment itself has been nothing compared to the backlash celebrities, news outlets and from the internet itself. Maybe I’m crazy or my sense of humor is whacked, but starting with last Sunday night, the internet has been abuzz with what I think are some of the most hilarious parodies I’ve seen in a long while. It all started with Kanye interrupting Obama’s speech to the joint session of Congress:
Then spread to Kanye interrupting Mario:
And went on to spawn several websites. It’s ridiculous, it’s hilarious and it’s been cracking me up all week long.
Also, I bet Xzibit is happy no one’s paying attention to him, if only for a little while.
