Just months ago, it wouldn’t have been a stretch to say that Chuck wouldn’t be back in San Diego this year. With the window for show pickups quickly nearing and still no word on Chuck, fans banded together, tweeting, buying five dollar footlongs from Subway and doing whatever they could to save their beloved show.
Today, Chuck returned to Comic Con triumphant.
And so did Jeffster.
That’s right, guys. The Chuck guys kicked off their completely packed panel with a live Jeffster performance, and I must say, it was worth getting up at four in the morning. With the exception of a few Chuck fans who mistakenly lined up in the wrong place and had to argue their way back to the front of the line, the crowd was positive and energetic.
Though, I do have to say, just because you can’t read the signs that tell you where to line up, doesn’t mean you deserve to line jump everybody. Even if you WERE in line at three in the morning.
Some tidbits from the panel:
*Alan Sepinwall did GREAT as moderator. The cast made sure to thank him, Mo Ryan, Televisionary and several others for supporting the Save Chuck campaign.
*Panel began with a montage of season 2, then video of the creators and Zach, dealing with the season 3 pickup. Very funny. Joked that they had no ideas except for Jeffster.
*We WILL be seeing the Buy More in season 3, and Zach has yet to be fitted for a Subway costume, he says. Whether or not he WILL, is still to be determined.
* Josh Gomez can apparently hide things in his beard.
*Carina will be back in season 3, and may or may not be Sarah’s sister (though, I really doubt that’ll be the case.)
*Awesome will be pulled more into spy world next season, to the dismay of Joshua Gomez, who wanted it to be Morgan.
*The new intersect in Chuck’s head will have glitches, and there will be a limited lifespan on his new abilities.
*Ideas thrown around about potential Ellie and Casey sexual tension. (Seemed purely hypothetical.)
*Chuck and Sarah will experience some relationship difficulties. (This got a big boo from the room.)
*Season 3 may premiere earlier than previously announced.
All in all, I think I might have to give the Chuck panel the best panel of Comic Con 2009 award, based on the Jeffster performance alone. The cast signed autographs and took pictures with the audience afterward, despite attempts from the con staff to usher them away. One of the reasons I love this show is that the cast seem so down to earth and humble, and today was no exception.
Can’t wait to see the cast back in 2010, gearing up for Chuck season four!
